Abstract
Disease of the Kidney has a large impact not only on the physical condition of the patient but also on the psychological and psyco-social dimension of their life. It is more variedly intrusive to an individual as it requires a major lifestyle change that is to be brought about aggressively for one to cope with the treatment process, its recovery and maintenance. The resultant psychological entities have shown to have a marked effect on the individual’s treatment outcome. The increase in psychological distress has indicated changes in key physiological aspects of individual’s with kidney disease. Depression, anxiety, illness intrusiveness with combined impact on the quality of life of individuals with kidney disease has shown to have marked variations in the physical out of treatment for kidney disease. This is most of them the result of inability to adhere to the lifestyle changes and develop adaptive behavior and coping mechanisms that can ease the process of treatment and provide an healthy transaction as to living with kidney disease and avert the fast progression of the resultant decline of the individual’s health resulting from the treatment plan for the kidney disease. Further studies must focus on developing an effective plan of care process and identification and early intervention of psychological and psychosocial aspects of kidney disease along with the medical regimen that the patient is to follow.
